New Site Gives Rotalac Plastics Room To Expand
Manchester-based shutter systems, extrusion and injection moulding specialist, Rotalac Plastics Ltd, has recently relocated to new premises on the Roundthorn Industrial Estate in Wythenshawe.
Speaking about the move to the 40,000 sq ft facility, Len Timmins (Managing Director) highlighted the possibilities opened up by the Company's decision to relocate from their former canalside site in Timperley. "The extra space and superb location afforded to us at Roundthorn Industrial Estate means that we can continue to adopt the very latest methodologies and practices to bring new services and products, to our customers.
As a Manchester-based company, we're proud to export our products across the globe to industries as diverse as medical and mining so the close proximity of the airport, as well as the M56, is going to improve our transportation capabilities. We will be clearly focusing our efforts on increasing sales across all areas of the business, and particularly exports to Canada and the USA, where Rotalac's shutters are enjoying phenomenal success, a lot of which is down to working closely with the International Trade Department of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, where Rotalac completed the Passport to Export Programme and have now graduated to the 2nd Stage of the International Trade Development Strategy. On the extrusion side of the business, we also see a lot of potential in the European marketplace so the time was certainly right for us to make a move."
Rotalac Plastics Ltd was successfully acquired from the BI Group as a management buyout by Len Timmins and Iain Willis (Financial Director) in 2004, and from the outset the team were determined to move every aspect of the business forward whilst reassuring their staff that any relocation would only take place within a 10 mile radius. "Retaining our committed and talented staff is extremely important to Rotalac Plastics" explains Len "All but one out of our 60-strong workforce have moved with us to the new site, and I'm grateful to everybody for the enthusiasm and flexibility they've shown whilst we've been working towards the final moving date."
Formerly home to Jungerich (Fork Lift Trucks), and next to Habitat, the new site is split between 2 units with one housing extrusion manufacture, assembly, injection moulding and toolroom and administrative staff. The other unit houses the manufacturing of steel shutters, balanced spring roller and idler as well as goods inwards and despatch.
The £400,000 investment made by Rotalac Plastics in the acquisition of new premises is testimony to the management team's commitment to capitalising on new opportunities to safeguard the future of the business. "The Rotalac name has already been synonymous with the best of British engineering for over 60 years, and by relocating we can continue this trend for many years to come" concludes Len Timmins. |
